EERC May Conduct Public Hearing into Cut in Power Supply to Enugu

The Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) may conduct a public hearing following a cut in power supply to Enugu by MainPower. The EERC has urged MainPower to submit a formal petition within 30 days as per the Commission's rules, instead of unilaterally cutting power supply.

The disagreement arose after the EERC reduced the Band electricity tariff in Enugu to N209, causing concern among Distribution and Generation Companies. The EERC emphasized the need for a formal petition to lead to a public hearing to resolve the issue.

MainPower disclosed encountering difficulties isolating Enugu State within its service area, leading to a vending challenge for customers. The EERC has summoned MainPower for a meeting on August 7 to address the reduction in power supply and vending challenges faced by customers.

The Commission also stressed the importance of MainPower generating enough revenue to cover operating costs efficiently in Enugu.
