EFCC Probes ₦12 Billion NFF Fund Amid Leadership Change

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed that its investigation into the ₦12 billion Federal Government intervention fund released to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is ongoing. EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale stated that the investigation is active, responding to inquiries about the fund approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024 to settle outstanding wages and bonuses owed to players of Nigeria’s national teams.

A source indicated that investigators have invited some officials linked to the fund for questioning, although their identities and any arrests have not been disclosed. This investigation coincides with significant changes at the NFF, including the resignation of its president, Ibrahim Gusau, after three years and 11 months in office.

Gusau announced his resignation during a news conference in Abuja, stating he consulted with family and friends before making the decision. He mentioned that he could not confirm how many board members would resign alongside him but expressed his willingness to continue contributing to Nigerian football.
