EFCC Detains NAHCON Officials Over Alleged N50bn Hajj Scandal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained two senior officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) over an alleged N50 billion Hajj scandal. The detained officials are Commissioner of Policy, Personnel, and Finance, Aliu Abdulrazak, and Director of Finance and Accounts, Aminu Muhammed.

They were reportedly invited by the EFCC on Monday morning and have been held since. The detention follows accusations of corruption and mismanagement during the 2025 Hajj operation, which stakeholders have described as a total failure of leadership.

The EFCC is investigating the alleged diversion and mismanagement of N50 billion, including extravagant expenses on tents, spouse allowances, and contingencies in Makkah. The commission is also looking into fund diversions dating back to the tenure of former NAHCON chairman Ahmad Jalal Arabi.

Several other senior officials have been interrogated in recent weeks as part of the investigation.
