EFCC Detains Top NAHCON Officials Over Alleged ₦50bn Hajj Mismanagement

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained top officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) over alleged mismanagement of ₦50 billion in Hajj funds. Commissioner of Policy, Personnel, and Finance, Aliu Abdulrazak, and Director of Finance and Accounts, Aminu Muhammed, were reportedly invited to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja and have been in custody since Monday night.

This detention follows accusations of mismanagement and a total failure in the conduct of the 2025 Hajj. Investigations also reveal that Abdulrazak and Muhammed are being probed for alleged fund diversion during the tenure of former NAHCON Chairman, Ahmad Jalal Arabi.

Efforts to reach the detained officials for comment were unsuccessful. Stakeholders have called for the disbandment of the current NAHCON leadership and the appointment of a sole administrator with proven Hajj operational and administrative experience to restore transparency and accountability.
