EFCC Charges Oluwabusayo Ekundayo with N16.5m Fraud
Oluwabusayo Ekundayo, the CEO and Chairman of Orion Surgical, was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of issuing dud cheques totaling N16,650,000. The arraignment took place on a Wednesday before Justice S.
Adepoju at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Gwagwalada. The EFCC's spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, stated that the charges included two counts.
The first count involved Ekundayo issuing a cheque for N4,650,000 to Clara Onwumer, which was dishonored due to insufficient funds in the account. The second count involved a cheque for N12,000,000, also issued to Onwumer, which faced the same issue.
Both counts contravene the Dishonoured Cheques Offences Act of 2004. Ekundayo pleaded not guilty to the charges, and prosecuting counsel Joyce Audu requested a trial date to commence the matter.
