EFCC Recovers N279 Million for Wole Soyinka Centre

On March 6, 2026, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) handed over a sum of N279 million to the Wole Soyinka Centre for Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Theatre, as part of its efforts to combat corruption and recover misappropriated public funds. The funds were recovered from Kabir Yusuf, the former General Manager/CEO of the National Theatre, who was implicated in a contract worth N299,707,828 awarded by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

Investigations revealed that Yusuf, along with others, failed to execute work valued at N55,910,744, leaving an outstanding balance of N243,799,132.25. The EFCC's Lagos Zonal Director, Ola Olukoyede, emphasized the commission's commitment to ensuring public funds are returned to their rightful owners.

The recovered funds will be monitored to ensure they are used appropriately for the benefit of Nigeria.
