EFCC Investigates Haruna Yusuf Over Currency Interception

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an investigation into Haruna Yusuf following the interception of undeclared foreign currencies at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) intercepted a total of $73,000, £15,957, and SAR 827,800.

Adamu, handed over the suspect and the currencies to the EFCC on Monday. The interceptions occurred during routine screenings between August 8 and 12, 2026.

On August 8, officers found SAR 827,800 and $53,300 concealed in footwear, while on August 12, they discovered $20,000 and £15,957 hidden in sportswear shoes belonging to Yusuf, who arrived on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET941. The handover was in accordance with Section 4(f) of the NCS Act 2023, which allows collaboration with border regulatory agencies.

The EFCC's Assistant Commander, Friday S. Ebelo, expressed gratitude to the NCS for their cooperation and urged the public to comply with currency declaration laws.
