Customs Seizes Over N3bn in Smuggling Crackdown

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A in Ikeja, has successfully disrupted smuggling activities in western Nigeria by intercepting over 220 consignments of prohibited and smuggled goods, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) estimated at N3.24 billion. During enforcement operations, the unit recovered N728.98 million in revenue, targeting smuggling and revenue evasion.

Comptroller Gambo Aliyu reported that the confiscated items included 4,956 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 12 foreign-used vehicles, 2,683 parcels of synthetic cannabis weighing 1,439.9kg, and various other illicit goods such as Tramadol tablets, elephant tusks, and foreign poultry products. Aliyu described the revenue recovery as encouraging and stated that the unit would intensify efforts to recover government revenue lost through customs fraud.

He urged compliance with customs laws among importers, exporters, and licensed customs agents, emphasizing the unit's commitment to facilitating legitimate trade while combating smuggling.
