Nigeria's EFCC and NFIU Win Global Award for Crime Fight

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) have been awarded for their collaborative efforts in combating financial crime. This recognition was announced during the 32nd Egmont Group plenary, which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from July 5 to July 10, 2026.

The award is part of the Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative and is considered the highest operational honor within the global financial intelligence community. The EFCC and NFIU's framework serves as a global model for secure intelligence sharing among domestic institutions and international partners, resulting in significant asset recovery.

The Egmont Group, which comprises 180 member financial intelligence units, aims to enhance collaboration and exchange of financial intelligence to detect and disrupt financial crime. The plenary also focused on strengthening public-private partnerships and the evolving nature of financial crime.
