EFCC Chairman Advocates for Anti-Corruption Collaboration

Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stressed the necessity for collaboration among anti-corruption institutions in West Africa to effectively tackle terrorism financing and illicit financial flows. This statement was made during the inaugural leadership conference of the Network of Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA) held in Abuja.

Olukoyede highlighted that corruption does not respect national borders and that a unified approach is essential to confront the growing criminal networks operating across these borders. He noted that illicit financial flows often traverse multiple jurisdictions, exacerbated by advancements in technology that create new forms of financial crime.

Olukoyede commended NACIWA for establishing protocols to facilitate information exchange for cross-border investigations. Francis Ben Kaifala, the Anti-Corruption Commissioner of Sierra Leone, echoed the need for coordinated efforts to combat corruption in the region, emphasizing the importance of sharing experiences and best practices among member countries.
