EFCC Quizzes Former Governor Tambuwal Over Alleged N189bn Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) questioned former Sokoto State governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals amounting to N189 billion during his tenure from 2015 to 2023. Tambuwal reportedly appeared at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja to face a panel of interrogators for breaching the Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Act of 2022.

While EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale refrained from commenting on the ongoing investigation, a source within the agency highlighted the seriousness of the alleged withdrawals as a violation of financial regulations. Tambuwal, who is currently a prominent opposition figure supporting the African Democratic Congress coalition, is positioning himself to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
