EFCC: We Target Corruption in Both Ruling and Opposition Parties

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, refuted claims of selective persecution by targeting corruption in both ruling and opposition parties. The EFCC dismissed accusations from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of politically motivated summons of opposition figures, including former Senate President David Mark and ex-governor Emeka Ihedioha.

Olukoyede emphasized that the agency's investigations cut across party lines and are not influenced by partisan considerations. The EFCC condemned attempts to politicize ongoing corruption probes and reiterated its commitment to impartiality and upholding the rule of law.

The ADC criticized the EFCC's actions as a targeted assault on opposition leaders, questioning the timing and motives behind the sudden urgency in investigating past cases. The EFCC defended its actions, stating that no one is above the law and that all individuals, regardless of political affiliation, must be held accountable for financial crimes.
