Malami Challenges EFCC Over Seized Properties in Court

Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding the seizure of 50 properties associated with his family. Malami's response came after the EFCC filed a 40-page affidavit in the Federal High Court to block the final forfeiture of these properties, which include hotels, schools, factories, and plots of land across Abuja, Kano, and Kebbi.

Justice Emeka Nwite had granted an interim forfeiture order on January 6, 2026. Malami insists that all properties were purchased with legitimate funds and declared to the Code of Conduct Bureau.

He claims the EFCC's motion is based on speculation without prima facie evidence. Malami's affidavit details his income from 2015 to 2023, totaling N15.5 billion, and disputes the EFCC's valuation of his properties.

The case is ongoing, with a hearing date expected to be set to determine the status of the interim order.
