UNILORIN VC Highlights EFCC's Role in Combating Corruption

Wahab Egbewole, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) plays a central role in Nigeria's progress by addressing economic and financial crimes. During a visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, Egbewole commended the commission's record in recovering funds, noting that over N500 billion had been recovered.

He emphasized the importance of redirecting these funds towards development projects to improve the country. Egbewole also highlighted the need for collaboration between the EFCC and academic institutions to instill ethical values and strengthen institutional integrity, particularly in the electoral process, which is often plagued by violence and corruption.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoye acknowledged the visit and reaffirmed the commission's commitment to preventing corruption. He disclosed that recovered funds would support the education sector, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.

Egbewole raised concerns about the increasing involvement of youth in cybercrime and expressed readiness to collaborate with the EFCC to promote integrity within the education system.
