Kwara Commissioner Stresses Leadership in Healthcare Success

Amina El Imam, the Kwara State Commissioner for Health, highlighted the critical role of effective leadership and governance in achieving success in healthcare programs during a workshop held in Ilorin. The workshop, organized by the Kwara State Ministry of Health, aimed to enhance leadership and management capacities among health sector stakeholders.

El Imam stated that the increasing complexity of health programs requires leaders to possess both professional knowledge and strong managerial and interpersonal skills. She emphasized that successful program delivery is significantly linked to personal discipline and self-management skills among leaders.

El Imam warned that technical expertise alone cannot guarantee the success of government programs, stressing the need for leaders to combine technical competencies with soft skills for effective decision-making. She urged stakeholders to prioritize a participatory approach to implement the knowledge gained from the workshop, aiming for measurable and sustainable results across health programs in the state.

The workshop received support from the European Union and aimed to strengthen leadership capacities to improve health outcomes in Kwara State.
