I-G Orders Transfer of Officers After Effurun Shooting

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, has mandated the immediate transfer of officers involved in a fatal shooting incident that occurred in Effurun, Delta State, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

This decision follows the death of suspect Mene Ogidi during an operation on Sunday. Preliminary reports indicate that officers attached to the Effurun Area Command were responding to credible information regarding a transport union member attempting to transport a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition.

The team leader, ASP Nuhu Usman, discharged his firearm, which resulted in the death of the suspect, a clear violation of existing regulations. DCP Anthony Placid issued a statement assuring the public that justice will be served according to the law and urged the public to remain calm as the disciplinary and legal processes unfold.

The police maintain a zero-tolerance stance against extrajudicial actions and abuses of authority that undermine public trust.
