CAN Urges Leaders to Embrace Sacrifice During Eid-el-Kabir

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), under the leadership of Archbishop Daniel Okoh, issued a statement on Wednesday urging leaders across the country to embody the spirit of sacrifice and compassion during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. The statement congratulated the Muslim community in Nigeria and around the world, describing the festival as a representation of faith and obedience to God.

CAN acknowledged the challenging times faced by Nigerians, including economic hardship, insecurity, and uncertainty about the future, which have worsened living conditions. The association lamented the struggles of citizens, including skipped meals and unpaid school fees, and called on leaders in government, politics, business, security agencies, and religious institutions to abandon indifference and self-interest.

Instead, they should focus on rebuilding public trust and alleviating the hardships faced by Nigerians. CAN also warned against allowing economic hardship to deepen ethnic and religious divisions and encouraged wealthier individuals and organizations to support the less fortunate during this time of sacrifice.
