Jigawa Butchers Plan Slaughter Fee Increase for Eid

Butchers in Jigawa State are preparing to raise slaughter fees in response to increased transport costs as the Eid-el-Kabir celebration approaches. Ado Sakin Fawa, a butcher, indicated that the cost of slaughtering rams has surged by 200% compared to previous festive seasons, with fees now starting at N5,000 per ram and N20,000 for bulls, depending on size.

The rising transport fares, particularly in markets like Sabuwar Kasuwa and Shuwarin Wudil, have significantly impacted operational expenses for butchers. Ahmad Mai Nama described the economic situation as uncertain, with no fixed charges for slaughter services, as costs are influenced by prevailing economic conditions.

Babannan Abdullahi, a meat processor, anticipates further increases in processing charges due to soaring petrol prices. Abdullahi Awaisu noted that inflationary trends are driving up service charges, although there is hope for improved economic conditions that could enhance patronage during the festive period.
