Eight Adamawa Lawmakers Defect from PDP Amid Crisis

On Wednesday, February 24, 2023, eight members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, including Speaker Bathiya Weslei, announced their resignation from the People's Democratic Party (PDP). This defection is part of a series of exits, with six lawmakers having left the party on February 23 and additional members defecting on February 24.

The lawmakers who resigned include Mose Yerima Zah representing Michika Constituency, Kate Raymond Mamuno from Demsa LGA, Pwamwakeno Mackondo from Numan, Adun John Alaba from Uba Gaya Constituency, Bulu Kantom from Shelleng Constituency, Musa Mahmud Kallamu from Mayo Belwa, and Japhet Hammanjabu. They cited a crisis within the PDP at the national level as their reason for leaving.

This development comes amid growing uncertainty regarding the leadership of the PDP in the state, particularly concerning the state governor, Rt. Hon.

Ahmadu Fintiri, who is believed to be aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
