1.6 Million Voters Set for Ekiti Governorship Election 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that about 1.6 million voters are anticipated to vote in the Ekiti State governorship election set for June 20, 2026. INEC Chairman Moham Kudu Haruna disclosed that the number of registered voters in the state has risen from 987,647 in 2023 to 1,059,360 in 2026, following the suspension of the continuous voter registration exercise.

A total of 1,028,929 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected, representing a collection rate of 97.1%, a slight increase from the 97.0% rate of 958,052 PVCs collected in 2023. The PVC collection exercise was initially scheduled to end on June 11, 2026, but has been extended to June 14, 2026, after consultations with stakeholders.

INEC has received 14,406 applications for the replacement of lost, damaged, or defaced PVCs, which have been successfully printed. However, plans to introduce a downloadable version of the replacement voter card have not been implemented due to incomplete technological infrastructure in Ekiti State.
