13 Political Parties Sign Peace Accord for Ekiti Elections

On June 20, 2026, thirteen political parties participating in the Ekiti State gubernatorial election signed a peace accord to commit to peaceful conduct during the electoral process. The event was organized by the National Peace Committee, with notable attendees including Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and Prof. Joash Amupitan, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The accord aims to reinforce democratic accountability and ensure credible, free, and fair elections. The peace agreement was signed in the presence of security agencies, civil society organizations, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, emphasizing the importance of political tolerance and respect for the rule of law.

The INEC has registered 1,059,360 eligible voters across 177 registration areas and 2,445 polling units in Ekiti State. The peace accord is seen as a critical step to ensure a safe electoral environment and to discourage electoral misconduct, hate speech, and violence.
