Ekiti Parties Sign Peace Accord for 2026 Elections

On June 20, 2026, thirteen political parties in Ekiti State signed a Peace Accord to promote peaceful conduct during the upcoming gubernatorial elections. The event was organized by the National Peace Committee (NPC) and attended by key figures, including Prof.

Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and IGP Olatunji Disu. The accord aims to reinforce democratic accountability and ensure a credible electoral process.

Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, representing the NPC, emphasized the importance of political tolerance and respect for the rule of law, urging all stakeholders to reject violence and hate speech.

The accord is seen as a commitment to fostering a peaceful atmosphere conducive to democracy. INEC has registered 1,059,360 eligible voters across 16 local government areas, and the commission is prepared to address operational challenges to ensure smooth elections.
