Oyebanji and Candidates Sign Peace Accord for Ekiti Election

On June 20, 2026, Governor Oyebanji of Ekiti State and 11 gubernatorial candidates signed a peace accord to promote a peaceful electoral environment ahead of the governorship election. The signing took place under the auspices of the National Peace Committee, in partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The event featured notable figures including INEC Chairman Prof. Ojo Amupitan and former military leader Abdusalam Abubakar. Governor Oyebanji emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, noting that the recent local government campaign tour was conducted without violence, reflecting a commitment to a peaceful electoral process.

He urged all political parties and candidates to honor the peace agreement and prioritize the state's interests over partisan politics. INEC Chairman Amupitan reiterated that the peace accord should translate into actions promoting tolerance and respect during the electoral process.

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu assured that comprehensive security arrangements would be in place to ensure voter safety during the elections.
