Oyebanji Faces 12 Challengers in Ekiti Gubernatorial Race

The gubernatorial elections in Ekiti State are set for Saturday, with incumbent governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking a second term against 12 challengers from various political parties. Notable candidates include Joseph Anifowos of the People's Movement, who has withdrawn in favor of Oyebanji, and other contenders from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), and others.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the final list of candidates. Despite internal crises within the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Wole Oluyed is contesting as their candidate.

Oyebanji enjoys significant support from influential political leaders, including former governors Adeniyi Adebayo, Kayode Fayemi, and Segun Oni, who have publicly endorsed his re-election. The election is viewed as a three-horse race primarily between the APC, PDP, and ADC, with Oyebanji aiming to make history as the first governor in Ekiti State to win two consecutive terms.
