Ekiti Governorship Election: Peaceful with Minor Issues

The Ekiti State governorship election was assessed as largely peaceful, with minor logistical challenges noted by observers. Celestin Okwudili Odo, who led the monitoring efforts, reported that electoral materials arrived on time, facilitating a smooth voting process.

Although some rural communities faced minor access issues, particularly for elderly and disabled voters, the overall conduct of the election was satisfactory. The biometric voter accreditation system functioned effectively, taking an average of two minutes per voter, although challenges were noted with elderly voters' fingerprints and facial features.

Security personnel were visible across polling centers, with 90% of officers arriving early to ensure order. Peter Maduoma of Cleen Foundation reported that 82% of polling units had at least three security officers present, contributing to voter confidence.

However, concerns were raised regarding the perceived impartiality of security personnel, with 46.3% of respondents indicating they did not view them as completely neutral.
