PDP Candidate Rejects Coronation Claims for Ekiti Election

Oluwol Oluyed, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Ekiti State, has refuted claims that the upcoming governorship election on June 20, 2026, will be a mere coronation for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Biodun Oyebanji. In a statement made available by his media aide, Gani Salau, Oluyed described such assertions as undemocratic attempts to undermine the will of the people.

He emphasized that the election is a competitive exercise and not a ceremonial endorsement. Oluyed criticized the portrayal of Oyebanji's administration as flawless, highlighting the challenges faced by Ekiti residents, including unemployment, struggles of small businesses, and inadequate infrastructure.

He urged political actors, including the media and security agencies, to ensure a free and fair electoral process, encouraging Ekiti residents to exercise their voting rights without fear of intimidation. Oluyed reaffirmed that the June 20, 2026 election will be determined by the people, not a coronation.
