INEC Chairman Urges Action Against Vote Buying in Ekiti

On Wednesday, Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), addressed security agents, urging them to take strict action against anyone found engaging in vote buying or trading in relation to the upcoming governorship election in Ekiti State scheduled for June 20. He highlighted that vote buying is a significant challenge facing Nigeria's electoral process.

Amupitan disclosed that there are 1,059,360 eligible voters registered to participate in the election and called on political parties to scrutinize the voter registration process. He reiterated the need for law enforcement agencies, including the EFCC, ICPC, and police, to ensure prompt arrests and prosecutions of offenders.

Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of electoral integrity, transparency, and the need for political parties to mobilize voters effectively. Amupitan assured that INEC is committed to conducting a free, fair, and credible election, reflecting the voices of the electorate.
