Female Abductee Dies After N25m Ransom Paid in Ekiti

On January 24, 2026, gunmen stormed Erinmop Ekiti in the Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, abducting five women, including a nursing mother. The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N100 million, but after negotiations, the family raised N10 million, which was rejected.

The number of captives increased to seven as two more were taken during the ransom delivery. Eventually, the family paid a total of N25 million, leading to the release of six abductees.

However, Hawau Suleiman, one of the victims, died in captivity due to the harsh conditions, including inadequate food and water. Muhammad Soliu, one of the freed victims, recounted the ordeal, stating they were forced to trek long distances barefoot.

The Ekiti State Police are investigating the incident and have been contacted for assistance in recovering Suleiman's body for proper burial.
