INEC Prepares for Ekiti Governorship Election on June 20

On June 11, 2026, Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), confirmed the commission's preparedness for the Ekiti State governorship election set for June 20, 2026.

During a stakeholders' meeting in Ado Ekiti, he provided details on the electoral process, highlighting that INEC has completed a clean and legal verification of the voter registration list, which now includes 1,059,360 registered citizens, an increase from 987,647 in 2023. The commission will utilize a bimodal voter accreditation system across 2,445 polling units.

Amupitan emphasized that no PVC means no accreditation and no vote, reinforcing the importance of security and accessibility for all voters, including those with disabilities. INEC has also collaborated with security agencies to ensure a safe voting environment and has accredited 91 media organizations to oversee the electoral process.

The election will take place simultaneously with legislative bye-elections across six states.
