INEC Confirms Over 1 Million Voters for Ekiti Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that there are 1,059,660 registered voters for the Ekiti governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026. INEC Chairman Joash Ojo Amupitan, during a press briefing in Ado Ekiti, assured political parties of the commission's dedication to conducting a free, fair, and credible election.

He warned against vote buying, labeling it a criminal offense under the Electoral Act, and highlighted the importance of transparency in the electoral process. Amupitan noted that the voter registration exercise had increased the number of registered voters by 66,000, despite 2,000 cases of double registration being detected and removed.

He urged political parties to scrutinize the registration reports and mobilize eligible voters. Additionally, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, the Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner, mentioned that preparations for the election are intensifying, including voter education programs to address misinformation and voter apathy.
