INEC Chair Prof. Amupitan Promises Credible Ekiti Election

On Thursday, June 20, 2026, Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), addressed stakeholders in Ado Ekiti, assuring them of a credible governorship election.

He stated that INEC is prepared to conduct the election with 1,059,360 registered voters across 16 local government areas, spanning 177 wards and 2,445 polling units. Amupitan emphasized the use of technology, including a bimodal voter accreditation system, to ensure voter authenticity and compliance with legal standards, stating, "No PVC, no accreditation, no vote." He outlined measures to prevent electoral malpractice, including deploying personnel to maintain security and integrity at polling units.
