Court Orders INEC to Recognize PDP's Oluyede in Ekiti

On a recent ruling, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Umar, mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to acknowledge Dr. Oluwol Oluyede as the governorship candidate for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Ekiti State elections.

The court granted relief to Oluyede in a suit numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/40/2026, which he filed against INEC after the electoral body excluded his name from the list of candidates. Justice Umar criticized INEC for this exclusion and ordered the commission to immediately recognize Oluyede's candidacy, including his name and the PDP logo on the ballot.

The court also issued a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from rejecting or excluding Oluyede's candidacy. Following the judgment, the PDP described the ruling as a victory for justice and democracy, urging INEC to operate strictly within the law to avoid undermining Nigeria's multi-party democratic system.

The party also called on its members in Ekiti State to intensify their campaign efforts.
