Court Validates PDP's Ekiti Candidate Amid Faction Dispute

On March 4, 2026, the Federal Court of Appeal in Ibadan, led by Justice Biobel Georgewil, advised the two factions of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to amicably resolve their differences. The court adjourned the hearing of two appeals until March 11, 2026, which were filed to set aside a conflicting decision from the Federal High Court in Ibadan regarding the party's national convention held on November 15-16, 2025.

The court recognized the faction led by Taminu Turaki as having lawfully elected its national chairman. Furthermore, the court validated Dr.

Oluwol Oluyed as the PDP governorship candidate for Ekiti State, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to include his name on the ballot. This ruling comes despite INEC's previous rejection of Oluyed's candidacy due to alleged non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

The court emphasized the need for INEC to act within the law and refrain from partisanship.
