Ekiti State Invests N9.7bn in Education Funding

Ekiti State has allocated N9.7 billion in counterpart funds to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) under the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji from 2022 to 2025. Prof.

Femi Akinwumi, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), detailed the breakdown of the funding: N1.2 billion was paid in 2022, N1.39 billion in 2023, and N3.55 billion is projected for 2024 and 2025. Akinwumi stated that these funds will significantly transform public basic education in the state by improving teaching and learning environments, expanding access to education, increasing student enrollment and retention, and reducing the number of out-of-school children.

The funding will also support health care delivery in schools, provide water and sanitation facilities, enhance digital literacy, and strengthen teacher capacity through regular training. Over the period, 699 classroom blocks will be renovated, and 8,410 student furniture and 1,447 teacher furniture will be procured.

Additionally, 8,336 teachers will benefit from various capacity-building programs, and N268 million has been disbursed for a staff housing vehicle loan scheme.
