Oyebanji Wins Ekiti Governorship Election, Makes History

On June 21, 2022, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Biodun Oyebanji as the winner of the Ekiti State gubernatorial election, held on June 20, 2022. Oyebanji, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), received 319,224 votes, defeating Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 40,543 votes.

The election saw a total of 384,940 votes cast, with 6,332 votes rejected. This victory marked a historic achievement for Oyebanji, making him the first governor of Ekiti State to win back-to-back elections, a feat previously accomplished by Ayo Fayose in 2014.

The election results were celebrated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who expressed confidence in the APC's leadership. Oyebanji's win is seen as a continuation of stability and progress in Ekiti State, with significant support from various political elites across the three senatorial districts.
