Clash Over Candidate Imposition in Ekiti North Politics

A political conflict is brewing in Ekiti North District as Governor Biodun Oyebanji is accused of attempting to impose a candidate for the upcoming 2027 Senate elections. Ayo Arise, speaking to journalists in Abuja, firmly rejected any notion of an imposed senatorial candidate, emphasizing that the choice should reflect the people's will rather than unilateral decisions by the governor.

Incumbent lawmaker Cyril Fasuyi dismissed speculations about the endorsement of a candidate, particularly former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi. Arise highlighted that there should be either a consensus or direct primary, stressing that the people must be involved in the electoral process.

He criticized the idea of appointing candidates without public input, asserting that such actions do not align with democratic principles. The political tension is further complicated by the upcoming governorship elections in June, with concerns about the implications of Oyebanji's actions on the political landscape in Ekiti North.
