Ekponiboro Festival Revives Culture and Community Spirit

The Ekponiboro festival held in Atan Abam on April 4, 2026, celebrated the wealth and culture of the community, showcasing performances from cultural troupes representing 27 villages. Chief Jame Umeh, associated with the Unubiko Foundation, was instrumental in reviving the festival, which had nearly become extinct.

The event took place at the primary school venue, with significant attendance that caused traffic congestion along nearby roads. Umeh's participation included a boat journey on the Igwu River, where he demonstrated traditional methods of transporting goods.

The festival also featured social interventions, including scholarships, food distribution, and renovations of local schools and health institutions. Despite challenges such as inclement weather, the event was marked by vibrant performances and a strong community spirit, highlighting the importance of cultural heritage and philanthropy in Atan Abam.
