EKSU's 102nd Lecture Advocates for Water Education

On the occasion of Ekiti State University's 102nd inaugural lecture, Professor Josephine Edward, an expert in ecology and environmental biology, called for an urgent push for science-driven water education and ecosystem protection. Her lecture, titled "Synergy of Physicochemical Parameters, Plankton, Macroinvertebrates, and Fish as Indicators of Aquatic Health," underscored the critical role of academic research in addressing environmental challenges and shaping sustainable development.

Professor Edward stressed the need for universities to extend beyond theoretical instruction to produce actionable knowledge that directly impacts society, particularly in managing vital natural resources like rivers and reservoirs. She advocated for stronger collaboration among academia, government, and local communities, emphasizing the importance of research findings in informing environmental policies and conservation strategies.

Additionally, she highlighted the necessity of educating the next generation of environmental scientists through field-based learning. Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Ayodele commended Professor Edward's outstanding academic contributions, noting that her work exemplifies the transformative power of education in addressing real-world challenges.
