El-Rufai Faces Corruption Charges in Kaduna Court

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, appeared at the Kaduna State High Court to hear a bail application concerning nine counts of corruption charges filed against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). The proceedings were held behind closed doors, preventing journalists from entering the courtroom.

The charges against El-Rufai include allegations of fraud related to the unauthorized release of 11 billion naira for a light rail project and the mismanagement of a 1.08 million dollar World Bank loan. Additionally, he is accused of conspiracy to offer monetary inducements to compromise an ongoing investigation involving a private firm, which allegedly includes the unlawful award of a 4.6 billion naira CCTV contract.

Amadu Sule's name was removed from the charges, leaving El-Rufai as the sole defendant. The case has been adjourned to April 14 for further hearings on the bail application.
