El-Rufai Faces Corruption Charges in Kaduna Court

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, arrived at the Kaduna State High Court to hear his bail application related to nine counts of corruption charges filed against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). The charges include allegations of fraud and abuse of office, specifically concerning the unauthorized release of N11 billion for a light rail project and the mismanagement of N1.08 million from a World Bank loan.

During the proceedings, defense counsel Ubong Akpan, SAN, indicated that the prosecution had amended the charges, dropping Amadu Sule from the case, leaving El-Rufai as the sole defendant. The court session was adjourned to April 14 for further consideration of El-Rufai's bail application.

The ICPC's allegations also include the unlawful awarding of a N4.6 billion CCTV contract, which allegedly violated procurement laws and conferred undue advantage. El-Rufai has denied all allegations against him.
