El-Rufai Returns to Abuja After ICPC Release for Funeral

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, arrived at his Abuja residence following his release from the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). His release was confirmed by his son, Bashir El-Rufai, who noted that it would enable his father to attend the funeral rites of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, in Egypt.

El-Rufai had been in ICPC custody since February 18, 2026, due to allegations of financial misappropriation related to his tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023. Upon his arrival in Abuja, he was greeted by family members and associates who came to offer condolences following the death of his mother.

The ICPC had previously issued a statement regarding the allegations against El-Rufai, which involved corrupt practices during his time in office.
