El-Rufai's Family Demands Evidence from Defence Minister

The family of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Defence Minister Christopher Musa to substantiate his allegations that El-Rufai orchestrated killings in Southern Kaduna or to publicly retract his statement. Musa made these allegations during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on September 3, 2026, accusing El-Rufai of exacerbating divisions and insecurity in Kaduna State during his tenure from 2015 to 2023.

He described the situation under El-Rufai as “toxic” and claimed that Southern Kaduna residents were unhappy with him due to the violence that occurred during his administration. In response, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the former governor’s eldest son, stated that the allegations were grave and made without evidence.

The family demanded that Musa either provide credible evidence or retract his statement publicly, warning that failure to comply would lead them to pursue legal action.
