El-Rufai Sues ICPC for N1bn Over Home Raid

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has initiated a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) following an alleged unlawful search of his Abuja residence on February 19, 2026. The suit, filed on February 20, 2026, in the Federal High Court, Abuja, challenges the validity of a search warrant issued on February 4, 2026, by the Chief Magistrate of the FCT Magistrate Court.

El-Rufai's counsel, Oluwol Iyamu, argues that the warrant is null and void due to lack of specificity, drafting errors, and absence of probable cause, constituting an unlawful search that violates sections of the Nigerian Constitution. El-Rufai seeks seven reliefs, including a declaration that the search was a gross violation of his fundamental rights, an order to restrain the ICPC from using items seized during the search, and N1 billion in damages for psychological trauma and distress caused by the incident.
