ADC Chieftain Calls El-Rufai a Political Prisoner

Oladimeji Fabiyi, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Deputy National Financial Secretary, condemned the federal government for allegedly detaining former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, claiming he has become a "political prisoner of war." Fabiyi's statement, released on Thursday, expressed concern over the government's actions, which he believes are aimed at suppressing political opposition. He noted that President Bola Tinubu appears to be deeply uncomfortable with El-Rufai's political influence, prompting a coordinated effort by Nigeria's major anti-graft agencies—EFCC, DSS, and ICPC—to investigate him.

Fabiyi highlighted the troubling nature of these actions, suggesting they reflect a broader pattern of political persecution against prominent opposition leaders. He referenced El-Rufai's previous invitation to the EFCC on February 16, 2025, and mentioned that he was granted bail last week following his arrest on corruption-related charges.

The matter has been adjourned until April 23.
