El-Rufai Detained by ICPC Amid Corruption Allegations

Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State and a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is currently in detention following a request from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). His detention, which began on March 5, 2026, is linked to allegations of money laundering and abuse of office.

The ICPC has stated that the detention is legally sanctioned and adheres to court mandates, with an initial remand order allowing for a 14-day investigation period. El-Rufai's legal team filed an application on March 6, 2026, to overturn the remand order, which was previously dismissed on March 9, 2026.

The ADC has condemned his detention as unconstitutional and an infringement on human rights, calling for his immediate release to prepare his defense. The party's spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the detention as a hallmark of dictatorship and urged the ICPC to uphold the rule of law.
