ICPC Chairman Faces Contempt Over El-Rufai's Bail

Maduabuchi Idam, a legal practitioner, has called for the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to be held accountable for contempt of court following the bail granted to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Idam criticized the ICPC's actions, stating that the report on El-Rufai's bail was procedurally irregular and inconsistent with established legal practices.

He emphasized that once a defendant is arraigned, any release must come from a competent court, and the ICPC's actions undermined judicial processes. Idam further questioned the legality of the release, which he described as being carried out without court approval, even on compassionate grounds.

He warned that failing to hold the ICPC Chairman accountable could set a dangerous precedent, allowing for similar discretionary releases in the future, which would defy established legal and judicial processes.
