El-Rufai Accuses Security Advisers of Airport Arrest Plot

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has publicly named those he believes are behind an attempted arrest that occurred shortly after his return from Cairo, Egypt. This incident took place on a Thursday and involved a confrontation with the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), which El-Rufai claims was orchestrated by national security advisers.

He made these allegations during a visit from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who expressed sympathy towards El-Rufai. The former governor highlighted the need for political unity as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, noting that opposition forces must organize effectively to challenge the ruling party.

El-Rufai clarified the roles of various agencies involved, stating that the ICPC, not the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was responsible for the events that transpired at the airport, and he mentioned that ICPC Chairman Nuhu Ribadu acted under direct orders.
