El-Rufai Back in ICPC Custody Amid Corruption Charges

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has been returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) pending the continuation of his trial. This development follows a court session on Tuesday, March 27, 2026, where his bail application was adjourned until March 31, 2026.

El-Rufai is facing 10 counts of charges, including allegations of money laundering and unlawful receipt of N289.8 million. His counsel, Ubong Akpan, expressed confidence that El-Rufai would regain his freedom in due time.

The case has been adjourned to April 10, 2026, for further hearings. The ICPC has filed charges against El-Rufai, which include allegations of abuse of office and fraud.

The court proceedings were held under tight security, and the prosecution declined to comment on the case. El-Rufai's co-defendant, Amadu Sule, was absent due to health issues.
