El-Rufai Raises Arrest Concerns Amid Political Tensions Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has raised concerns about facing arrest if he returns to Nigeria, attributing it to the escalating political tensions preceding the 2027 general elections. El-Rufai, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleges that opposition figures are pressuring politicians to defect from ruling parties.

He criticizes the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and accuses them of fearing a credible electoral process. El-Rufai's comments come amidst public attention on the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who is facing charges by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) including allegations of abuse of office and money laundering.

El-Rufai also blames the Senate President for the election results, claiming the opposition aims to maintain electoral manipulation. The ADC, under El-Rufai's leadership, is reportedly mobilizing grassroots support and preparing to challenge the ruling party in the upcoming elections.
