El-Rufai Detained by EFCC Over ₦432 Billion Probe

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for a second night as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to ₦432 billion during his tenure. He was invited for questioning by the EFCC and subsequently detained.

The investigation also includes allegations related to unauthorized phone tapping, a serious offense under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015, which could result in a 10-year imprisonment or a fine of ₦10 million. Sources indicate that El-Rufai may remain in detention until Wednesday, with his bail application being considered.

He has been allowed to observe five daily prayers during his detention, coinciding with the commencement of Ramadan. The EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, has not responded to inquiries regarding the situation.
